About Sadharan Brahmo Samaj Library

Founded in 1895 and located in Bidhan Sarani, North Kolkata inside the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj – the Library houses a lot of treasures. This library is having a collection of over 25,000 rare books and periodicals mainly for periods covering 1850 to 1950. The collection mainly on subjects of History, Philosophy, Theology and Religion. An ideal place for researchers on relevant subjects and for students and enthusiast on History.

The collection of books and periodicals mostly are in English & Bengali, though there are several books in Sanskrit, Greek, Hibrew, Arabic etc. The entire collection is card indexed in Dewry Decimal system and presently computerisation of catalogue has been taken up.

The library also has old and rare journals like Tattvabodhini, Bamabodhini, Tattvakoumodi, The Indian Messenger, Prabasi etc. Some rare manuscripts and paintings are also there in the library. The library with its free reading room is open to all irrecpective of caste, creed and community. Daily newspaper (English & Bengali) are kept in the library.
