Welcome to Sadharan Brahmo Samaj Library

Located in North Kolkata inside the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj – the Library houses a lot of treasures. This library is having a collection of over 25,000 rare books and periodicals mainly for periods covering 1850 to 1950. The collection mainly on subjects of History, Philosophy, Theology and Religion. An ideal place for researchers on relevant subjects and for students and enthusiast on History.

History

Founded in 1879 it remained initially housed in the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj Mandir premises before it was removed to a rented house of its own. Maharshi Devendranath Tagore came forward with a large donation for that purpose. A reading room was also opened in the Library which was also a place for hosting various seminars and meetings, which also served as the meeting ground for the members of Congregation, especially for new inquirers.
